In the above sketch, water pumped from the tower basin is the cooling water routed by method of the approach coolers and condensers in a commercial center. The interaction of the air and water motion make it possible for a partial equalization and evaporation of water. Fresh water makeup (M) is provided to the tower basin to compensate for the absence of vaporized water, the windage loss water and the draw-off water.

That contact triggers a little amount of the water to be lost as windage (W) and some of the water (E) to vaporize. Fresh water makeup (M) is provided to the tower basin to compensate for the absence of vaporized water, the windage loss water and the draw-off water. A normal enormous refinery processing 40,000 metric tonnes of unrefined oil per day (300,000 barrels per day) flows about 80,000 cubic metres of water per hour through its cooling tower system.
